"I found out there were people who really did care about someone like me ... people who didn’t look down on me."
– Talia Ellis as quoted in the New York Times, Nov. 12, 2007
Inside⁄Out Youth Services
WHAT WE DO
As the Pikes Peak region’s sole local lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning (LGBTIQ) youth organization, we offer a broad range of support services for young people between the ages of 13-22, including leadership development, community outreach, life skills and prevention curricula, support groups, peer counseling, one-on-on substance use counseling, safe recreation activities, HIV⁄STD prevention education, martial arts⁄self defense classes, a food pantry, a clothing closet, computer lab, and a resource library as well as on-site youth services evenings and afternoons.
WHY WE’RE GREAT!
When LGBTIQ youth arrive at our door, most often they have nowhere else to go. Approximately 20 to 25 percent of the Inside⁄Out youth are homeless. Their family, friends and classmates have often rejected them. Inside⁄Out offers meaningful alternatives by providing a safe haven and helping LGBTIQ youth gain self-respect and acceptance. During 2008, over 400 youth participated in our programs.
