Fort Read

A project of the Children’s Literacy Center

WHAT WE DO

With the help of 800 local volunteers, the Children’s Literacy Center provides one-to-one tutoring to local children ages 7-11 who aren’t yet reading at grade level. With support from the 2009 Give! campaign, we are launching our 11th local tutoring site aimed to help the estimated 1,200 children attending Fountain-Ft. Carson Schools who aren’t reading at grade level.

WHY WE’RE GREAT!

Literacy is critical in determining whether a child will succeed in school and in life. Our programs are unique because we are the only local nonprofit organization that focuses exclusively on literacy issues in children. In addition, our program is entirely free to children and their families. Ninety-five percent of children who graduate from our program show improvement in both their reading and writing skills.
