Our award-winning social enterprise employs people with disabilities — a workforce facing over 90% unemployment — to recycle electronics. Our economic, social, and environmental results speak for themselves: 21 meaningful jobs translate to an annual savings of $250,000 in reduced taxpayer-funded benefits and 3 million pounds of electronic waste ethically recycled.
We tackle two significant problems: meaningful employment for an underserved population, and diverting electronic waste from landfills through ethical recycling. We completely dismantle the components and recycle ALL of it — we don’t just strip valuable materials and dump the rest like many “recyclers.” And we continue to give back — our community recycling events generated over $21,000 for local charities last year!
Thanks for giving us your birth year. There is a special matching grant available to the organization in each category that garners the most donations from folks in their 20's and 30's. One of the big focuses of this campaign is to encourage younger citizens to become more active donors.
When Give! ends at the stroke of midnight, December 31, 2012, our goal is to have raised more than $800,0000 -- that's $100,000 more than we raised last year. To help us on our way, generous local businesses, foundations and individuals have pledged more than a quarter million dollars in Matching Grants and Friendly Competition Awards for our 58 participating nonprofits.
