We provide employment, education and training to local young adults through environmental stewardship projects. Corpsmembers build and maintain trails, perform wildfire mitigation and much more. Conservation is the focus of the work, but our ultimate goal is for corpsmembers to complete the program with stronger résumés, financial independence, and a head start on their futures.
Our corpsmembers receive a weekly stipend and are awarded an Americorps Education Award scholarship upon completion of their term. In the meantime, they gain skills, job experience and an environmental education. The work is physically demanding, yet personally and professionally rewarding. With the Colorado youth unemployment rate at 18.1 percent, the need for our services continues to grow. In 2011, 93 percent of corpsmembers were enrolled in school or placed in jobs within 3 months of leaving the Corps.
Thanks for giving us your birth year. There is a special matching grant available to the organization in each category that garners the most donations from folks in their 20's and 30's. One of the big focuses of this campaign is to encourage younger citizens to become more active donors.
When Give! ends at the stroke of midnight, December 31, 2012, our goal is to have raised more than $800,0000 -- that's $100,000 more than we raised last year. To help us on our way, generous local businesses, foundations and individuals have pledged more than a quarter million dollars in Matching Grants and Friendly Competition Awards for our 58 participating nonprofits.
